Trees or shrubs, sometimes spiny. Stipules 0. Leaves (in ours) alternate, imparipinnate or 1-2-foliolate, often congested at branch ends. Flowers unisexual or (rarely) bisexual. Ovary superior, 2-5-locular. Fruit a drupe. Worldwide: 17 genera and 540 species, tropics, especially America and NE Africa. Zimbabwe: 2 cultivated genera and 9 cultivated taxa. |
