Description of the genus

Shrubs or trees. Leaves opposite, simple, with 1-3 pairs of prominent glands at base of the lamina. Flowers in elongate racemes, distinctly pedicellate. Calyx shortly 5-dentate or truncate. Flowers white. Fruit with 2 two-seeded pyrenes.

Worldwide: c. 70 species from tropical America to Argentina

Zimbabwe: 1 cultivated taxon.
