Description of the genus

Shrub. Inflorescence of terminal monochasial cymes. Bracts 2, subulate; bracteoles 2. Calyx actinomorphic with 5 acuminate lobes. Corolla campanulate, with tube longer than the 5 lobes, ± actinomorphic. Fertile stamens 2; anthers 2-thecous; staminodes 2. Capsule ellipsoid, woody.

Derivation of name: After James F. Mackay, 1775-1862, Scottish horticulturalist and botanist

Worldwide: 1 species in South Africa (Mpumalanga, KwaZulu-Natal and Eastern Cape) and Eswatini

Zimbabwe: 1 cultivated taxon.
