Description of the genus

Annual herbs. Leaves bright green. Inflorescence single-flowered; spathe bracts fused below. Flowers extremely zygomorphic; red; tube very short; tepals narrow, one outer etect, two inner spreading laterally, remaining tepals declinate. Fruit capsule. Seeds black.

Worldwide: 2 species from Mexico and Guatemala
