Description of the genus

Shrubs, or straggling to twining climbers. Stipules reduced to interpetiolar line. Leaves opposite, rarely verticillate, lamina margins entire. Inflorescence of cymes, many- or few-flowered fascicles to solitary, axillary and terminal. Flowers 5-merous; sepals imbricate; corolla funnelform, lobes imbricate. Fruit a capsule, ovoid to narrowly ellipsoid. Seeds several, winged.

Worldwide: 3 species in North America, East and South East Asia.

Zimbabwe: 1 cultivated taxon.
