Description of the genus

Woody climbers. Leaves simple, often glandular-ciliate; petiole bearing 2 glands in upper part. Inflorescences of umbel-like corymbs. Petals yellow, unequal. Stamens unequal; 6 fertile with 4 staminodes. Ovary 3-lobed with 3 distinct unequal styles, which are leafy or hook-like at apex. Fruit a samara, 1-3 together.

Worldwide: 100 species occurring in tropical America

Zimbabwe: 1 cultivated taxon.
