Description of the genus

Annual or biennial herbs with a taproot. Leaves variously pinnatisect. Umbels compound, pedunculate, numerous; involucre and involucel present, the bracts pinnate, the bracteoles narrow and undivided. Calyx-teeth obsolete. Petals white or sometimes creamy, glabrous, incised above. Fruit narrowly elliptical to oblong-elliptical, only slightly laterally compressed. Endosperm bluntly pentagonal in section, commissural face slightly concave or almost flat.

Worldwide: 3-4 species in Macaronesia, the Mediterranean and W Asia.

Zimbabwe: 1 cultivated taxon.
