Description of the genus

Perennial bulbous herbs. Leaves usually present at anthesis. Scape solitary, hollow.Flowers solitary, usually white, tinged with pink, ± actinomorphic. Per. segments 6, united below, inner 3 slightly narrower than outer 3; tube often scaly in throat. Corona 0. Stamens 6, ± equal in length and straight; anthers dorsifixed, versatile. Stigma 3-fid. Fruit a capsule.

Worldwide: 40 species in tropical and warm America
