Description of the genus

Shrubs or small trees. Stipules small, stipels 0. Leaves imparipinnate, 6-30-foliolate; leaflets opposite, subopposite or alternate. Inflorescence of axillary, rarely terminal, racemes. Bracts small; pedicels slightly swollen near the top. Calyx campanulate with 2 upper teeth ± fused. Petals yellow. Stamens free. Fruit usually indehiscent, narrowly oblong, stipitate, flat, winged (in ours) along the upper edge, membranous. Seeds flattened, ovate-oblong.

Worldwide: 6 species in the E Cape, Afromontane forests and S India

Zimbabwe: 1 cultivated taxon.
