Common names: Mubaratsotsa (Shona) Mutapahuro (Shona) Tree fuchsia (English)
Description: Straggling shrub or tree up to 12 m with drooping branches. Leaves opposite. The showy flowers are present in abundance and grow directly from the trunk and branches.
Notes: When in flower, the trees attract many sunbirds and nectar seeking insects.
Derivation of specific name: lucida: shining
Flowering time:Mainly Aug - Oct
Worldwide distribution: From Yemen south through Ethiopia to South Africa
Growth form(s): Tree, shrub over 2 m.
