Description of the family

Terrestrial ferns. Rhizome creeping or erect with brown non-peltate rhizome-scales. Stipe not articulated. Lamina 1-2-pinnate (-3-pinnatifid), usually narrowly oblong in outline. Sori circular to linear, with or without an indusium.

Worldwide: 6 genera and c.900 species, ± cosmopolitan.
