Description of the family

Epiphytic or terrestrial plants. Stipe not articulated to the rhizome. Fronds simple or variously pinnately dissected; veins free or anastomosing at the margins. Sori linear (in ours), borne on the costal side of a vein and with a narrow or obsolete indusium.

Worldwide: 1 genus and c.720 species, cosmopolitan.
