Description of the genus

Perennial, creeping (in ours) herbs. Leaves in groups of (1-)2-many, never peltate. Umbels simple and axillary with 1-many rays. Flowers bisexual or male, together or in separate umbels. Petals greenish-white, sometimes tinged with red. Involucre of 2 persistent bracts. Fruit laterally flattened, ± constricted at the commissure; primary ribs usually well-developed, sometimes with well-developed secondary ridges as well.

Worldwide: 40 species from warm areas, mostly S Africa
