Description of the genus

Perennial, glabrous, trailing or climbing succulent herb, with milky latex. Leaves 0 or rudimentary. Flowers in sessile umbels. Corolla with inflated tube; lobes as long as tube. Corona of 2 series: outer annular, cup- or basin-shaped, 5-angled; inner of 5 inflated lobes attached to the back of the anthers. Follicles acuminate, smooth. Seeds winged with apical tuft of hairs.

Worldwide: 30 species in tropical and warm regions

Zimbabwe: 2 taxa.
