Description of the genus

Shrubs or subshrubs. Inflorescences terminal or axillary, cone-shaped or spicate. Calyx actinomorphic, 5-lobed. Corolla 2-lipped, yellowish-brown, with a distinct rugula in the emarginate upper lip; lower lip 3-lobed. Fertile stamens 2. Ovary with 2 ovules. Capsule woody, with elastic placental bases. Seeds without hygroscopic 1-seriate hairs.

Worldwide: 3 species in tropical and S Africa
