Description of the genus

Terrestrial herbs with creeping rhizomes. Stems erect, leafy. Inflorescence terminal, erect. Flowers small (petals 4-6 mm in ours), not opening widely. Petals fused to the dorsal sepal to form a hood. Lateral sepals free to the base. Lip saccate at base, bearing 2 calli.
