Description of the genus

Woody liane, climbing shrubs or small trees. Leaves imparipinnate; leaflets opposite or subopposite. Inflorescences terminal or axillary racemes, often from old leaf bases. Flowers 5-merous. Sepals free. Petals 5. Stamens 10. Carpels 5, densely hairy. Fruit a densely velutinous follicle; apex with a curved or twisted beak. Seeds with a basal aril.

Worldwide: 13 species, mainly in tropical Africa

Zimbabwe: 1 taxon.
