Description of the genus
Rhizome massive, erect, bearing massive persistent leaf bases (stipules), forming caudex. Fronds large, 2-pinnate. Sori in bivalved synangia. Derivation of name: ptisana: pearl baring, referring to the synangium that is reminiscent of pearl barley. Comment: The genus Marattia was recently split into three distinct genera: Marattia, Eupodium and Ptisana.
Worldwide: ± 20 species, palaeotropical distribution. |
