Description of the genus

Trunk crowned with a tuft of large pinnate leaves. Leaflets usually spiny with parallel nerves. Scales of female cones with only 2 ovules on their adaxial side.

Worldwide: 46 species occurring in tropical and S Africa

Zimbabwe: 3 taxa.
