Small perennial with culms 10–30 cm. long straggling or forming tufts from slender wiry rhizomes. Leaf laminae 2–5 cm. long and 1–5 mm. wide, linear-lanceolate, flat, sharply acute. Panicle small 0.7–3.5 cm. long, narrowly oblong very sparsely branched, the branches often somewhat contracted.
