Description:
Stoloniferous perennial. Culms 30-70 cm × 0.7-1.5 mm, triangular, glabrous; base woody, thickened into bulb-like swellings 4-10 mm in diameter. Leaves: lamina up to 15-30 cm × 2-5 mm; leaf sheath with a rim of dense long whitish hairs; ligule indistinct or 0. Inflorescence 5-20 cm, usually simply spicate, consisting of 6-20 sessile clusters of bisexual spikelets, with the lower clusters sometimes stalked; bracts of lower clusters sometimes ± leaf-like. Spikelets 4-6.5 mm. Glumes 3-4 mm, reddish-brown, glabrous or hairy on the midrib. Nutlet 1.6-2 × 1.2-1.5 mm, obovoid to subspherical, white, grey or pale brown, smooth to lightly or strongly tuberculate; hypogynium c.0.4 mm.
