Description:
Annual or perennial herb with several small erect stems. Leaves linear-lanceolate along the stems, sessile, hairy. Flowers in axillary pairs, yellow with sharply pointed sepals.
Notes: Var. linearis is a small cushion forming plant from drier areas in southern Africa, including western Zimbabwe. Subsp. macrantha is a much more robust plant, known only from the Zambezi valley in Mozambique.
Derivation of specific name: capensis: of the Cape
Habitat: It is usually found on river banks or in moist grassland, open woodland and vleis, particularly on sandy or loose soil.

Worldwide distribution: Zambia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Botswana, Namibia and South Africa.
