Description:
Usually a small to medium-sized unarmed tree, sometimes shrubby. Leaves compound with 15-35 pairs of pinnae, each with many minute leaflets. Flowers in "shaving-brush" heads, white or pale yellow. Pods linear-oblong, purplish when young with a distinct green margin, turning dark brown with age.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: amara: bitter; sericocephala: with silky heads
Habitat: In woodland and wooded grassland, often in clumps, more rarely singly.
Altitude range: (metres) 600 - 1500 m
Flowering time:Sep - Oct
Worldwide distribution: From Sudan and Eritrea southwards to Botswana and South Africa
Zimbabwe distribution: N,W,C,E,S
