Description:
Deciduous tree. Stipules intrapetiolar, always connate below, rapidly caducous (in ours). Leaves paripinnate; specialised glands on petiole and rhachis 0. Leaflets opposite, in (2-)4-7(-8) pairs, the middle ones usually the largest. Inflorescence usually a terminal, much-branched panicle. Bracteoles 2, well-developed, completely enclosing the flowers in bud, persistent,keeled on back. Perianth clearly differentiated into 5 obvious petals and 5 sepals. Sepals 5, well-developed, ciliate. Petals 5, one somewhat larger than the others. Stamens 10. Pod dehiscent, flat, brown-tomentose (in ours), woody. Seeds flat.

Habitat: An important constituent of miombo woodland, often growing with Brachystegia spiciformis.
