Description:
Shrub or small tree. Leaves paripinnate without any glands on the rhachis or petiole; leaflets in 4-9 pairs, hairless, ovate-elliptic, tapering. Flowers in showy, erect pyramidal panicles, bright yellow. Fruit a brittle, blackish-brown pod, up to 60 cm long, tapering at both ends.
Notes: Only one plant is known from the Mahenye area in the Save Lowveld. This habitat is threatened by cultivation. It may also occur in the Chewore Safari Area on the Zambezi (Trees of Southern Africa, Coates Palgrave, p 340, 2002).

Habitat: Normally occurring in bush on coastal sand dunes but also known from sandy islands in the Save and Zambezi(?) rivers.

Flowering time:Any time of the year
Worldwide distribution: From East Africa southwards to Limpopo and Mpumalanga
Zimbabwe distribution: E
Growth form(s): Tree, shrub over 2 m.
