Description:
Perennial herb with mostly prostrate stems radiating from a strong taproot, often forming mats and rooting at the nodes. Leaves 3-foliolate with narrowly oblong-elliptic to somewhat obovate leaflets, 8-40 mm long, terminal leaflet larger than lateral leaflets, mostly hairless; stipules paired, one larger than the other, linear-lanceolate to ovate-lanceolate, 3-5 mm long. Inflorescences 8-24-flowered, leaf-opposed 2-10 cm long, on erect short shoots. Standard bright yellow to orange, often lined or flushed reddish to purple-brown, somewhat shorter than the keel. Pods plicate with three lateral folds, 7-10 mm long, hairless except for the upper suture.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: listii: named after Friedrich Ludwig List, German botanist, author and high school teacher at Tilsit in the first half of the 19th Century..
Habitat: In grassy places along streams and floodplains, in damp sandy spots, along roadsides and in cultivated ground.
Altitude range: (metres) 900 - 1640 m

Worldwide distribution: Zambia, Zimbabwe,Botswana, Namibia, Eswatini, Lesotho and Limpopo, Mpumalanga, KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern Cape South Africa.
