Description:
Erect or decumbent, short-lived, branched perennial, up to 1.5m tall. Leaves closely arranged, sessile, 3-foliate. Leaflets mostly held erect, linear-oblanceolate to oblanceolate, up to 20 mm long, thinly hairy on both surfaces; margins rolled under; stipules absent. Flowers in numerous,2-3-flowered racemes or solitary along the main branches or on short lateral branchlets, sometimes axillary. Calyx 5-8 mm long, densely silky pubescent. Standard bright yellow; often tinged or marked reddish, pubescent towards the apex on the outside. Wings as long as the keel or shorter; keel 7-9 mm long rather narrow with a projecting sharp beak. Pods subsessile, 16-25 mm long, cylindrical, densely spreading hairy.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: caudata: abruptly ending in a long tail-like tip
Habitat: In miombo woodland and grassland, often near swamps, rivers and vleis; also in disturbed places and scrub at higher altitudes.

Worldwide distribution: Angola, Cameroon, DRC, Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
