Description:
Multi-stemmed shrub or small tree. Leaves elliptic to obovate, thinly textured. Flowers creamy green, inconspicuous, unisexual on different trees. Fruit fleshy, berry-like, white.
Notes: Can be confused in leaf with Erythroxylon zambesiacum. See that species for a discussion of the differences.
Derivation of specific name: virosa: with an unpleasant smell.
Habitat: In woodland and along forest margins, often on rocky outcrops or termite mounds.

Worldwide distribution: More or less throughout the Paleotropics.
