Description:
Much-branched shrub, 1-6 m tall. Branches reddish-brown with white lenticels. Leaves spirally arranged, lanceolate to narrowly ovate, up to 16 times; 6 cm, pale to bright green with yellow translucent gland-dots on the undersurface; margin toothed. Flowers in axillary spikes, unisexual on the same inflorescence. Female flowers below, held in large shallowly cup-shaped bracts; male flowers above, very small, whitish. Fruit c. 3 mm in diameter, 3-lobed, gland-dotted, held in the enlarged bracts.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: pubiflora: with hairy flowers.
Habitat: In deciduous woodland, riverine vegetation and at the base of rocky outcrops, often in sandy soils.
Altitude range: (metres) Up to 1220 m
Flowering time:Oct - May
Worldwide distribution: Botswana, Malawi, Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Limpopo, Mpumalanga, South Africa.
