Description:
Glabrous perennial herb, producing annual stems to 30 cm high from a woody rootstock. Leaves numerous, sessile, spreading to reflexed; lamina linear-lanceolate, to 30 × 5 mm, rounded and apiculate at the apex. Cymes usually clustered in terminal umbels. Cyathia c. 3-5 mm, broadly cup-shaped; glands 4-7, rounded, 2-horned or crenulate, bright yellow. Male flowers many; female 1. Capsule deeply 3-lobed, borne on a pedicel up to 1.5 cm long. Seeds ovoid, slightly flattened.

Habitat: A pyrophyte of grassland and open woodland
Altitude range: (metres) 1000 - 2280 m
Flowering time:
Worldwide distribution: Widespread from Cameroon, Sudan and Ethiopia through East Africa, the DRC and Angola, and in our area in Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
