Description:
Shrub or small tree. Leaves large, up to 15 × 15 cm, broadly ovate, 3-5 lobed with rough hairs on both surfaces. Flowers in many-flowered axillary heads, showy, pale to deep pink, 3-5 cm across.
Notes: The flower dries while remaining on the tree to form papery wings, which act as an agent for seed dispersal by wind (image 3).
Derivation of specific name:
Habitat: In open woodland, along streams, on rocky outcrops and along forest margins, preferring higher rainfall areas.

Worldwide distribution: Angola, DRC, Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Swaziland and Mpumalanga, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.
