Common names: Granite garcinia (English) Granite mangosteen (English) Mutunduru (Shona)
Frequency: Common

Description:
Small evergreen tree. Leaves oblong or elliptic, thick and leathery, exuding a yellow sticky latex when broken. Lateral veins conspicuously etched on both surfaces. Flowers solitary or in small clusters, axillary, greenish-yellow, short-lived. Fruits fleshy, spherical, yellow when ripe, edible.
Notes: Verdcourt in FTEA separates G. buchananii and G. huillensis as follows:
  1. Leaf lamina ± long-acuminate; petiole 5-15 mm long; bark not corky ... buchananii
  2. Leaf lamina rounded, obtuse, acute or apiculate at the apex; petiole 2-6 mm; bark corky ... huillensis
The two taxa are also separated in SRGH which means that both are recorded for Zimbabwe.
However, FZ 1(2) firmly states that these cannot be separated and we have followed that approach in this account.
