Description:
Shrub or small tree. Leaves ovate to almost circular, veining conspicuous beneath; margin coarsely dentate or crenate. Flowers in terminal and axillary panicles, cream with anthers conspicuously red. Fruit a conical woody capsule, surrounded by the persistent corolla.
Notes: In Zimbabwe it is only known from riverine fringes above the Victoria Falls area. Its main threats are habitat degradation by elephants and infestations of Lantana camara.
Derivation of specific name: abdessammadii: after Mohammed abd es-Ssamadi, Kenyan who companied German botanist Georg August Schweinfurth during his travels in East Africa in the 19th century.
