| Description: |
Usually a deciduous scrambling shrub with long trailing branches. Leaves opposite, simple, elliptic, finely hairy when young; margins entire but wavy. The persistent petioles often harden into strong, blunt spines after the leaves have fallen. Flowers normally appear before the leaves, in showy, dense axillary heads, white with the long stamens bearing conspicuous orange anthers. Fruit usually 5-winged, pale straw-coloured. |
