Description:
Dense, multi-stemmed shrub or small tree. Leaves opposite or subopposite, elliptic, shiny green above. Flowers in axillary rounded heads, unpleasantly scented, creamy-white to yellow. Fruits 2-3-winged (rarely 4 or 5-winged), greenish-yellow, drying to light brown.
Notes: Recorded as a cultivated species on the basis of a specimen in SRGH seen on 4 July 2013.
Derivation of specific name: myrtifolia: leaves like the Myrtle (Myrtus communis)
Habitat: In mixed woodland, riverine fringes and on rocky outcrops and hillsides.
Altitude range: (metres) Up to 1200 m
Flowering time:Nov - Apr
Worldwide distribution: Angola, Botswana, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Zimbabwe distribution: N,W,C,E,S
Growth form(s): Tree.
