Description:
Erect annual or rarely perennial herb, up to 40cm. Leaves lanceolate or ovate-lanceolate, opposite along a 4-ridged stem. Flowers large for the genus, up to 4.5 cm in diameter, terminal, mostly solitary, white to pale yellow with an orange to orange-brown tinge. Fruit a small subspherical capsule.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: grandis: of great size
Habitat: In grassland and among rocks, often in sandy soils.
Altitude range: (metres) 4600 - 2100 m
Flowering time:
Worldwide distribution: Nigeria, Cameroons, Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana and South Africa.
