Description:
Erect herb up to 60 cm tall. Stem unbranched or branched, 4-ridged. Leaves sessile, elliptic-lanceolate to subcircular-cordate or subcircular-reniform, 18 mm long, sometimes leathery, 5-veined, upper leaves smaller and more distant. Flowers yellow, in terminal few flowered, lax or compact heads. Calyx segments 5, lanceolate to elliptic, 7–11 mm long, keeled or with a dorsal wing broadest at the middle or near the base; margin hyaline. Corolla tube 5.5–9 mm long; lobes broadly elliptic to oblong-obovate or obovate-circular, 5.5–11 mm long, rounded, clawed. Stamens inserted at the corolla sinuses. Ovary ellipsoid, 3.5–4 x 1.5–2 mm long. Capsule ellipsoid, 5–6 mm long.

Derivation of specific name: longicaulis: with a long stem.
Habitat: In (montane) grasslands.
Altitude range: (metres) 1700 - 2300 m

Worldwide distribution: Cameroon, Malawi, Mozambique, Zimbabwe and South Africa.
