Description:
Robust shrub-like perennial, up to 2.5 m tall, not aromatic or sometimes described as aromatic. Branches quadrangular, becoming woody near the base, covered with with short more or less spreading hairs. Leaves ovate, 1-3 cm long, sometimes pubescent with small sessile glands; margin crenate; petiole 1-2 cm long. Inflorescences lax with 2-6-flowered verticels. Bracts ovate 5 mm long, hooded, obscuring the young buds. Calyx c. 4 mm long with a rounded upper tooth and long pointed lower teeth. Calyx and teeth expanding in fruit 8-11 mm long. Corolla pale pinkish-purple 7-10 mm long; lower lip boat-shaped, 5-8 mm long, both lips forming right angles with the corolla tube.
Notes: A robust, long-flowering and hardy plant.
Derivation of specific name: labiatus: lipped
Habitat: fringes of riverine and evergreen forest.
