Description:
Perennial herb with erect or decumbent stems up to 60 cm long, growing from a woody rootstock. Leaves opposite, quite broadly ovate, 1-2.6 cm long, cordate at the base, finely pubescent. Flowers solitary or in pairs in the upper leaf axils, white to mauve, with or without a herringbone pattern on the lower lip. Capsule 7-9 mm long, finely pubescent.
Notes: Specimens of the species have been long known and were previously labeled a sp. B sensu Hedrèn. It has only been formally described very recently (2015) in the 2nd part of the Flora Zambesiaca volume on Acanthaceae (Vollesen in FZ 8-6, 2015: 201).
Derivation of specific name:
Habitat: Montane grassland and rocky outcrops, sometimes along roadsides.
Altitude range: (metres) 1400 - 2300 m
Flowering time:
Worldwide distribution: Known from the Mutare-Nyanga area in eastern Zimbabwe and possibly Mozambique.
Zimbabwe distribution: E
