Description:

Perennial herb with prostrate, spreading or erect stems up to c. 30 cm long, growing from a woody rootstock. Leaves opposite, ovate-lanceolate to elliptic-oblong, 1-6 cm long, lateral veins almost invisible, hairless. Flowers in dense capitate inflorescences, blue, rarely white; styles 3-5, exserted. Fruit spherical, 4-8 mm in diameter, fleshy and succulent, shallowly lobed, hairless, black when ripe. For differences between this species and the similar P. schweinfurthii consult the key to species. |
