Description:
Perennial herb, up to 25 cm tall. Leaves mostly basal or in the lower fifth of the stem, elliptic, 2.5-5 cm long, 3-5-veined from the base, leathery, shortly hairy on the veins and margin; margin often purplish, with a few glandular teeth in the upper half. Capitula solitary or rarely 2 together. Involucral bracts elliptic, up to 10 mm long, hairless or with a few hairs. Disk florets yellow; ray-florets 10-15 with ligules 10-12 mm long, white with 3 small teeth at the apex.
Notes: This species is easily distinguished from it closest relative, the more widespread Aster harveyanus by its much smaller habit, the almost basal leaves and the solitary flowers.
Derivation of specific name: chimanimaniensis: of the Chimanimani mountains
Habitat: In montane grassland on quartzite sandy soil.
Altitude range: (metres) 1580 - 2400 m
