Description:
Very attractive perennial herb. Stems decumbent to suberect, up to c. 40 cm tall, leafy, growing from 1-several small rosettes of woolly grey leaves apressed to the ground, all parts densely grey woolly and glandular. Basal leaves up to 14 × 25 cm, elliptic-oblong to almost round; stem leaves oblong to lanceolate, up to 4.5 × 1.5 cm, smaller towards the top of the stems. Capitula in a few-many-headed open inflorescence. Involucral bracts, c. 11-seriate, 4-20 mm long, white, rose-red to crimson, spreading. Florets numerous, yellow, often red-tipped.

Habitat: In moist (montane) grassland, sometimes on almost bare soil.
