Description:
Stemless perennial herb, up to c. 12 cm tall. Leaves basal, subsessile, narrowly oblanceolate, up to 8 × 1 cm, densely covered in grey-white woolly hairs, particularly near the base; apex often mucronate. Capitula sessile, solitary in the basal leaf axils, c. 0.7 cm in diameter, light yellow. Involucral bracts 2-3-seriate, subequal, lanceolate, c. 6 mm long. Ligules on the ray-florets c. 5 mm long, oblanceolate, tubular near the base, 3-dentate at the apex.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: acaulis: without a stem
Habitat: In poor rocky or sandy shallow soils, often as a pioneer.

Worldwide distribution: Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya and Uganda in the North-east; Angola, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Limpopo, South Africa in the south.
