Erect unbranched herb, with annual stems growing from a woody rootstock. Leaves and stem covered in sticky glandular hairs. Capitula 1-few on long stalks. The capitula are unusual for the genus in that they consist only of disc florets and are purple in colour, resembling Crassocephalum or small Vernonia spp.
