Erect perennial pyrophytic herb, up to 1.75m tall. Stems usually single, branched. Leaves mostly along the lower stem, up to 30 × 16 cm, pinnately lobed, bluish-green often tinged purple tinged, mostly hairless except for hairs on the midrib below; margin with small spread out teeth. Basal leaves sometimes smaller and undivided. Capitula in lax branched terminal heads, yellowish-green, up to 2.5 cm in diameter.
