Description:
Small, pink-flowered herb, 1- or less often 2-flowered, flowering before the leaves. Bracts 2. Petals 6. Style lobes 3. Stamens 6, 3 lower down in the tube of the corolla than the other 3. Ovary inferior.
Notes: Closely related to Cyrtanthus sanguineus (Lindl.) Walp.
Derivation of specific name: galpinii: after E.E. Galpin (1858-1941), a botanical collector
Habitat: Amongst grass on dry rocky slopes in open Brachystegia woodland
Altitude range: (metres) 1100 - 1800 m
