Description of the genus

Shrubs and trees with succulent stems and white latex (in ours). Stipules minute or 0. Leaves alternate, at the branch apices. Inflorescence a lax thyrse. Flowers slightly zygomorphic. Corolla lobes fused at base into a tube; lobes overlapping to the right in bud. Anthers produced into long hairy appendages. Carpels 2, spherical. Seeds with hairs at each end.

Worldwide: 5 species in tropical and subtropical Africa and Arabia

Zimbabwe: 1 cultivated taxon.
