Herbs. Leaves opposite, simple. Flowers solitary in axils. Calyx 5-toothed; teeth shorter than tube. Corolla 2-lipped, tubular; upper lip 2-lobed; lower 3-lobed. Stamens 4; filaments inserted near base of corolla tube; anthers 2-thecal. Ovary 2-locular. Capsule dehiscent loculicidally. Worldwide: 150 species in southern Africa, Asia and America Zimbabwe: 1 cultivated taxon. |
