Description of the genus

Suffrutices or small shrubs. Inflorescence of axillary cymes or solitary. Calyx actinomorphic, 5-lobed. Corolla distinctly 2-lipped; upper lip 2-lobed; lower lip 3-lobed. Fertile stamens 4, didynamous. Capsule cylindric. Seeds bearing hygroscopic hairs; seeds 2 per loculus.

Worldwide: 65 species in tropical and warm regions

Zimbabwe: 1 cultivated taxon.
