Description of the genus

Shrubs, woody; stems twinging; latex white. Leaves opposite, margins entire; greyish green. Inflorescence axillary cymes. Flowers fragrant; calyx 5-partite; sepals ovate; corolla slightly contorted in bud; lobes 5. Fruit paired follicles, narrowly ovoid or pear-shaped. Seeds numerous; coma of silky hairs at one end.

Worldwide: 2-4 species in tropical South America.

Zimbabwe: 1 cultivated taxon.
